Rat Patrol has always been a self-proclaimed admission, however a visual distinction is usually made by a rat making their own "colors". Each member's colors are a personal journey and testament to time in the club. Colors are made out of anything and with anything the individual chooses- a vest, jumpsuit, coat, hot pants, hoodie, and/or a shirt is decorated with patches, screen printing, iron-on transfers, painting, needle pointing, spray painting, etc. Much like the boy scouts, Rat Patrol has created merit badge patches, and are sewn on when a member earns one.
